Evangelion 1.01: You Are (Not) Alone

Evangelion 1.01 DVD

It’s my lucky day. I was done picking up my wife’s bag which she left for me during her transit in Singapore. After lunch I did a little mall walking to see if there are any interesting things I can see or buy. Not that I have a fortune to burn though, it’s just I don’t know when I’ll be stranded in this country again.
My lucky eyes caught a “Japan’s No.1 Box Office” on top of a figure I’m familiar with. W00t, Evangelion: 1.0! I went inside to be confused but happy. I didn’t found any Eva but I see Astroboy VCD, Kekkaishi DVD, Bleach, Deathnoe The Movie, and a discounted Ka.ras DVD. Uh oh, and also Hikki’s Heartstation.
Having a hard head spin on what to buy, I finally settled my mind on Ghibli’s collection. There are some movies inside I’ve seen, two others are still new to me. At the cashier I popped out a question to seek Eva, better than dying out of curiosity when I got back home. Lo and behold, he shopkeeper hand me out a VCD and DVD. “Fcuk, I’m going to buy it whatever it takes (as long as it doesn’t cost a fortune)”, my heart said. So, I finally grab the DVD version along with Ghibli collection.
This Eva 1.0 DVD is the first of a four releases. There will be 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 release. This first installment covers 6 episodes of the series. So what’s Eva 1.0 anyway. The booklet said it is a remake of 1995′s Eva to meet the new age of modern animation. Some cut scene that never made to the original series where ressurected.  Some original materials was revamped to seamlessly match the new drawn materials and also CGs. The result: an Eva film that no one has seen before

However, I still have some dissappointment. The artwork look superb, but there may have been too many CGs that we barely see much hand artwork. Most of them get blurred :D . To confirm this, I may need to install proper codec. As the booklet said it’s encoded in HD as well.
