<p>I&#8217;m not very sure how awesome the product will be. The first Jolicloud is a flavor of Linux OS. It was quite nice although the integration with cloud is somewhat limited. The second Jolicloud, is a dissapointment for me. It&#8217;s a web OS with nothing new, and cloud integration is somewhat still awkward. Docs are still locked in silos of apps.</p>
<p>Do you think this third iteration will be Jolicloud jackpot? Maybe they have the cloud vision but fail to materialize it.</p>
<p>Talking about cloud, I&#8217;m still looking for a service to liberate data in my phone. Something won&#8217;t force me to plug cable between phone and a laptop.</p>

<p>Well, to be honest, I&#8217;ve been saying the similar sentence. I&#8217;m been &#8220;using&#8221; Friendfeed for sometime but I hardly get what does it do than aggregating my lifestream and my friend lifestream. Scoble makes it clear today</p>

Pople has already start with keyword bookmark. It&#8217;s a shorcut linked to javascript which you can type in URL bar, eg: &#8220;g keyword&#8221; will look up keyword in google. There&#8217;s also IM to command where you can hook up your IM to certain services. I can recall there&#8217;s a TODO services using Yahoo as a bridge. And of course, there is <a title="Twitter" rel="homepage" href="http://www.twitter.com/neofreko">Twitter</a> that has been tapped by everyone to hook their service onto. RememberTheMilk use twitter as a shortcut to post new task into user task list.<br id="dwq0" /> <br id="dwq00" /> There&#8217;s also <a href="http://yubnub.org" target="_blank">yubnub.org</a>. Yubnub make it possible for us to create a shorcut, console flavoured command to execute certain activity related to browsing. Basically it&#8217;s like a parameterized <a class="zem_slink" title="TinyURL" rel="homepage" href="http://www.tinyurl.com">TinyURL</a>. So you can also define &#8220;g -k &lt;keyword&gt;&#8221; to search keyword in google. What makes it different to the prementioned shorcut is that it is social. You can share your commands and you can use other&#8217;s commands as well. Same thing, different rules equals game changes.<span id="more-823"></span>Mozilla Ubiquity, bring this concept to a new level. Not only you can define your own shorcut. You can code your shorcut in a javascript while utilizing built-in <a href="http://jquery.com">jQuery</a>, <a href="https://wiki.mozilla.org/FUEL" target="_blank">FUEL API</a>, and <a href="http://code.google.com/p/trimpath/" target="_blank">TrimPath</a> js template engine. You&#8217;ll be provided with a cool API, a nifty console (also service as a canvas) to invoke your command via given shorcut, also a platform to share (Herd). There&#8217;s already a hefty load of <a href="https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Ubiquity/Ubiquity_0.1_User_Tutorial" target="_blank">commands</a>. google, weather, twitter, email, calculate, and more. All of these commands are dissected as part of the <a href="https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Ubiquity/Ubiquity_0.1_Author_Tutorial" target="_blank">documentation</a>. So you&#8217;ll know how to send email using a pre-selected content (text/image) on your browser. You&#8217;ll know how to handle credential, which you&#8217;ll be dealing with when building a twitter-like command. You&#8217;ll know how to manipulate you page content. And so on.<br id="w5fk" /> <br id="w5fk0" /> Not interesting enough? I&#8217;ll let you know somthing. There&#8217;s this <a href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/readwriteweb/~3/UyCZIK694Vs/zeep_mobile_free_sms_gateway.php" target="_blank">free SMS gateway</a> to use. Sementara di lain pihak, saya mewakili persona yang enggan melakukan klik dalam rangka menghargai karya sang penulis. Saya cukup percaya dua tipe user tersebut benar-benar ada, walau sepertinya tipe yang pertama saya sebut sepertinya punya lebih banyak persentase.</p>
<p>Seperti kata <a href="http://mangoaddict.com" target="_blank">Ivan</a> di <a href="http://blog.neofreko.com/index.php/2008/08/26/blog-plus-iklan-sama-dengan-duit/#comment-93574" target="_blank">sini</a>, sepertinya memang user yang mau mengklik iklan masih cukup banyak. Buktinya <a class="zem_slink" title="Click-through rate" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Click-through_rate">CTR</a> tidak naik-naik juga. Ini mungkin tanda bahwa CTR masih sangat laku sehingga ratenya tidak dinaikkan. Sesuai hukum supply and demand,ekonomi 101, jika penawaran berlimpah makan harga akan cenderung rendah. Tapi hal ini bisa juga salah.</p>
<p>Dalam era web 2.0 ini sepertinya banyak hukum-hukum ekonomi baru yang ditemukan. Munculnya bentuk-bentuk interaksi baru, perubahan kultur, dan interkoneksi seluruh warga dunia dalam satu tempat menelurkan aturan-aturan baru dan mengubah pakem-pakem lama. Meskipun mungkin masih ada hukum dasar prinsipal yang masih benar-benar tegak. CTR tadi misalnya belum tentu tetap rendah karena masih berlimpah peminatnya. Bisa juga terjadi karena monopoli harga, atau mungkin kejenuhan pasar <a class="zem_slink" title="Pay per click" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_per_click">PPC</a>.</p>
<p><em>Jadi cara mana yang lebih tepat diambil dalam rangka memonetasi blog secara efektif?</em></p>
<p>Seperti yang sudah ditulis di atas, beberapa hukum prinsip ekonomi masih berjalan. Dimana ada permintaan di sana ada peluang penawaran. Ini berarti targeted ad masih berjalan. Ya, beriklan secara tepat pada user yang tepat adalah langkah yang masih valid. Jika anda sudah merasa memberikan iklan yang sudah tepat tetapi user masih berpikiran klik pada iklan tersebut hanya akan memperkaya anda, berarti usaha targetting ad anda masih perlu dibenahi. Pastikan bahwa value yang dibawa iklan tersebut mempunyai value yang lebih dibandingkan dengan kekhawatiran user. Jika anda menerima satu rupiah untuk tiap klik, buatlah user (merasa) mendapatkan sepuluh rupiah jika mengklik iklan anda.</p>
<p>Bagaimana caranya? Usaha yang cukup logis adalah mengarahkan user ke vertikal idamannya. Misalnya, bawa produk-produk langsung ke hadapan user. Jika sebelumnya kita hanya menghadirkan link ke website, maka coba kita tampilkan produk-produknya secara langsung. Jika kita berbicara tentang anime,maka tampilkan saja produk-produk anime di sana. Memang tidak ada jaminan pasti untuk diklik akan tetapi jika dihitung lebih cermat, kemungkinan klik oleh pengguna nilainya lebih besar daripada sekedar menampilkan link website atau banner.</p>
<p>Masih ada cara-cara lain. Idenya adalah buat user senang sehingga ia tak sadar melakukan apa yang anda harapkan: klik iklan, berkomentar, ikut polling, dll. Bisakah anda hubungkan prinsip ini dengan situs semacam Gmail, Delicious atau Flickr?</p>

<p>Pembaca datang di suatu situs karena tertarik dengan kontennya, tidak dengan iklan yang dipasang disana. Kecuali iklannya benar-benar luar biasa dan memberikan &#8220;klik&#8221; pada pembaca, maka iklan tak punya peluang sama sekali untuk di klik. Contoh &#8220;klik&#8221;, di situs Victoria Secret, Anda sedang mencari lingerie spesial sebagai hadiah spesial untuk pasangan anda. Disamping produk yang anda amati ternyata ada iklan &#8220;Lihat produk yang anda lihat diperagakan oleh &lt;taruh artis seksi favorit anda di sini&gt;!&#8221;. <p><a href="http://www.mangoaddict.com/2008/08/13/tip-blogging-membangun-blog-dengan-orientasi-adsense/" target="_blank">Jadi, apakah memasang iklan di blog dengan harapan kaya mendadak masih bisa dianggap tindakan waras matematika?</a> ya tinggal dihitung saja. Kalau pendapatan dihitung dari jumlah impresi (tayang), dan jika tiap 1000 impresi berharga 1 rupiah, berarti untuk mendapatkan satu juta rupiah anda harus memastikan ada 1000 x 1000.000 kunjungan ke blog anda. Untuk pay per click, tinggal diubah saja angka-angkanya sesuai dengan aturan dari agent pemasang iklan. Oww, ya anda benar, tidak harus 1000&#215;1000.000 kunjungan di satu blog saja. Kita bisa mendistribusikan impresi ke banyak blog supaya satu juta rupiah bisa segera tercapai.</p>
<p>Jadi memasang iklan di website demi uang itu tidak efektif? Hehe, ini tergantung cara pandang dan strategi Anda. Strategi saya jelas tidak efektif. Buktinya saya tidak bisa membuat buku cara sukses dengan adsense :p. Menurut saya, akan lebih efektif jika kita bisa mencari sponsor utama untuk blog kita. Ya, mirip portal-portal berita itu. Cuman kelasnya aja yang beda. Untuk blog-blog tak laris seperti ini ya nyari sponsor kelas teri dulu. Misalnya: &#8220;Getuk Asli Mbah Juminten, bisa delivery&#8221;. Dipasang saja tarif seratus ribu untuk 6 bulan. Sepertinya cara ini lebih cepat daripada nunggu pendapatan satu juta rupiah dari iklan PPC :p. Buka saja beberapa spot/slot iklan dengan tarif variatif.</p>
<p>Mas ini ngomong doang ya. Emang udah dapat duit dari cara yang Mas bilang? Hehehe, tahu tidak. Anda sudah membayar dengan perhatian Anda sampai ke baris ini. Dengan cara pandang tertentu, perhatian Anda juga bsia saya konversi jadi uang. <p>Pertama kali menengok <a rel="external'" href="http://cerpenista.com">cerpenista</a>, saya merasa”this is something!”. Tapi saat itu saya tak tahu bagaimana saya bisa berpartisipasi. Bukan karena navigasi yang tidak ketemu akan tapi karena saya tida tahu bagaimana harus memulai. Walaupun ada beberapa group yang menarik seperti Fabelia (I was thinking it would be as interesting as unspeakable creatures in Harry Potter like story), atau Jayustisia (berlomba-lomba menjadi jayus). Tetap saja saya masih susah memulai. Ibarat menunggu saat yang tepat untuk melempar kerikil melewati jeruji roda yang berputar, menunggu awalan kata-kata yang pas untuk menyambung tulisan ternyata juga menuntut kesabaran.</p>
<p>Saya membayangkan, andai ada sebuah sandbox untuk langsung nimbrung bebas, mungkin saya tidak akan menunggu terlalu lama karena takut salah atau takut dibentak-bentak anggota grup terkait.</p>
<p>Saya bayangkan juga, andai ada metode mirip untuk menambahkan ilustrasi. Cihui, alangkah asiknya. Lalu cerita yang komplit diterbitkan dalam edisi terbatas, hardcover, ahh, keren banget.</p>
<p>Memang asik, apalagi sebenarnya tidak ada batasan nyata dalam pemanfaatan layanan ini. Setidaknya sampai sekarang tidak ada larangan untuk memakai layanan ini sebagai portal penulis cilik. Walaupun ide ini sepertinya perlu penanganan khusus karena mungkin ada beberapa konten yang tidak cocok untuk anak-anak “di bawah umur”. Hmm, keponakan saya mungkin sangat senang kalau bisa punya teman-teman untuk menulis bersama. Akan jadi salah satu alat ekspresi dan pengejawantahan diri yang totally positive!</p>
<p>Eh, sadar tidak? Jika dilihat dengan jeli, sebenarnya konsep cerpenista ini mirip dengan kawin silang wiki dan microblogging. Alih-laih memodifikasi keseluruhan tulisan, pengguna hanya bisa menambahkan serpihan-serpihan tulisan baru. Serpihan-serpihan ini adalah ciri khas microblogging. Menarik bukan. Dengan jalan merunutkan ”percakapan” berdasar waktu di bawah judul yang sama, muncullah brand cerpenista. Sempatkah terpikir olehmu?</p>
<p>Bagaimana mungkin ide seperti itu tidak terpikir oleh kita? Atau sempat terpikir dan dieksekusi akan tetapi tidak pernah berhasil take off seperti cerpenista? Mungkin saya perlu mewawancari founder layanan ini. Lain kali saja ya? Saya janji <img src='http://blog.neofreko.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

I actually has some topics I can record, but I was to shy to show you my voice <img src='http://blog.neofreko.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> . Or simply, Jakarta isn&#8217;t condusive enough to (force me) podcasting. Well, that&#8217;s a stupid reason I must change soon. But let it be my issue. Let&#8217;s talk something interesting, why podcast and why didn&#8217;t people start it here in Indonesia.<br id="yv9g" /> <br id="yv9g0" /> The minority of podcaster itself is a sign. Podcasting haven&#8217;t been tested yet. Nobody knows the actual verdict of how success can a podcaster be. It may just waiting the next celebrity-candidate to bring it to the glamour stage. Could it be you?<br id="y516" /> <br id="y5160" /> Podcast is portable. Podcast is repeatable. Podcast has some distinct characteristic compared to regular online/offline text. Podcast is more personal as you can really feel the authoor through his/her voice. Podcast is intimate as the author can whisper directly to your ear. Podcast is more controllable than reguler text as audience need no more to imagine how the author would pronounce his/her story.<br id="s4jk" /> <br id="s4jk0" /> Then why there&#8217;s a few or even now regular podcaster in Indonesia?<br id="s4jk1" /> <br id="s4jk2" /> As usual, bandwidth is the first class suspect. Podcast tends to consume more bytes than text. A merely short podcast can take a few MB already. And for some people, a few MB is even not worth waiting.<br id="cc03" /> <br id="cc030" /> Second suspect? Lazyness, as you can read in my early paragraf. I think this one is somewhat similar to blogging.<br id="cc031" /> <br id="cc032" /> Third suspect? People really doesn&#8217;t feel like podcast is appropriate for publishing. Either it&#8217;s simply not effective or technically too challenging.<br id="cc033" /> <br id="cc034" /> Now, do you feel like invading this no-man-land of podcasting? Do you want to be the king? 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The other night, on yet another taking-care-of-the-project-do-not-let-the-website-down, I bump into Singapore enterpreneur community site. I started with the video cast, The Geek Goddess Show, via <a href="http://sgentrepreneurs.com/innovation-technology/2008/08/01/the-geek-goddess-show-episode-8-e27-unconference/" target="_blank">sgenterpreneurs.com</a>.</p>
<p>It is pretty amazing for me to live a while in the country with such environment. To see such youngsters to ignite and pull out an energetic event own their own is very motivating. Further, looking into <a href="http://podfire.sg" target="_blank">podfire.sg</a>, one of a startup, we can watch many interesting startup video pitch. It&#8217;s thrilling to watch and asking myself, when I&#8217;m gonna stand in front and presenting one of my own.</p>
<p>Above moment made me think of why Singapore startups look so lively. I can identify four major causes.</p>
<p>First, internet is a common culture. I don&#8217;t have any evidence to show that average people here, especially young generation, are internet savvy. However, URL is a common thing to see in TV, ad board, and maybe in other media as well. This is a fertile ground where potential consumer are waiting to be &#8220;fed&#8221;.</p>
<p>Second, broader connectivity. I can watch youtube, streams last.fm, load flash app without feeling any lag. Most of RIA demands broader bandwidth to compensate features. Not that small bandwidth does not promote creativity and innovation, only that sky-limit environment is a guarantee of unbounded experiment.</p>
<p>Third, available incubators. Incubation is a well known and well supported process by many institution. NUS has their own annual event where startup can take the challange and get funded. Indonesia is not yet near this stage, however some effort seem to be seeded already, eg: <a href="http://www.inaicta.web.id/" target="_blank">INAICTA</a> event, though it&#8217;s not designed to look for and fund an idea.</p>
<p>Enterpreneur community. So far, I can only found e27. However, I suspect there are already some startup and wannabe-founder connected via thin line translucent network. Only during a specific event, those enterpreneurs will be visible.</p>
<p>Last but not least (bonus): <a href="http://connect-the-dots-singapore.blogspot.com/2008/07/dont-think-out-of-box-get-out-of-box.html" target="_blank">stop thinking out of the box, get out of the box</a> instead! <p>It&#8217;s true, there may still many other major or subtle causes that I didn&#8217;t notice. You can try to find it yourself by surfing dot sg domains.</p>
