Friendfeed 101

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

A lot would say: What the hell is Friendfeed? I ain’t gettin’ any positives.

Well, to be honest, I’ve been saying the similar sentence. I’m been “using” Friendfeed for sometime but I hardly get what does it do than aggregating my lifestream and my friend lifestream. Scoble makes it clear today

Mark: I spend a lot of time aggregating articles together that have a certain kind of value. It sounds like you, and Gabe, are two of those kinds of people (who would rather read about Steve Jobs’ health or something smart or something geeky than look at random angry tweets or photos of bacon). It’s very easy. You can add a list and put me in it separate from all the other people. That way you can get the stuff I’m filtering out for you and you can ALSO subscribe to everyone else. Very easy, and powerful! – Robert Scoble

And it’s true. I’ve been receiving some positives today. Where? From the right sources. People who actually stay in friendfeed and bouncing conversation. Not people who stay out of friendfeed and jotting his stuff blindly to it. So, if you still don’t get it then start following the right people. Start joining a room.

I’ll see you there.

Mashup Ahead: Mozilla Ubiquity

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

This is not really new. Mozilla  Ubiquity is a product from a well known concept. Pople has already start with keyword bookmark. It’s a shorcut linked to javascript which you can type in URL bar, eg: “g keyword” will look up keyword in google. There’s also IM to command where you can hook up your IM to certain services. I can recall there’s a TODO services using Yahoo as a bridge. And of course, there is Twitter that has been tapped by everyone to hook their service onto. RememberTheMilk use twitter as a shortcut to post new task into user task list.

There’s also yubnub.org. Yubnub make it possible for us to create a shorcut, console flavoured command to execute certain activity related to browsing. Basically it’s like a parameterized TinyURL. So you can also define “g -k <keyword>” to search keyword in google. What makes it different to the prementioned shorcut is that it is social. You can share your commands and you can use other’s commands as well. Same thing, different rules equals game changes. (more…)
