Utada Hikaru: Suara Hati

Be My Last kemungkinan adalah juga curahan hati Hikki yang sedang merana.

Stone Sour: Less Hardcore Slipknot?

Stone Sour came before Slipknot. Everybody knows, Corey Taylor of Slipknot is also Stone Sour’s vocalist. So which one to pick between the two?

Slipknot has been dubbed one of the pioneer in New Wave Heavy Metal. To my deaf ear it sounds like a cross breed between speed metal and hardcore. Huh? Just imagine early era of Metallica only with heavy hardcore voice, you’ll get the picture :D . So far as I can feel, Slipknot has always promoted black or anger energy. Vocal is clear and strong. More f words. Core energizing, or so I use to describe. It means it will light you up in your darkest time, as light in fire not as having only a light. It is a perfect for you who cannot go hardcore, as you may not able to digest hardcore music, but feeling like punk rock just doesn’t cut.

Stone Sour on the other hand has their own characteristic, however less noisy than Slipknot. Trough Glass is a track and hooked me up with Stone Sour. It’s like having Slipknot in accoustic mode. LOL. You can still have Corey unique vocal while chilling out on no anger/black aura. I really wish Slipknot has more slow song like Vermillion Pt. 2.

Uh oh, I almost forget. I think these two group is the place where I listen to more drums than guitar. I have always love screaming electric guitar, either on GNR’s Slash or Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. However, the drums really got in to me. It’s like a rushing heartbeat on overfluous caffeine.

What about you? What do you think of them? Are you listening to similar artist?

Into Female Fronted Gothic (Orchestra) Band

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I found Octavia Sperati first, not really sure where I first listen to this band. Maybe when I still work in my previous office. Evanescence is mainstream already, and I found it not really into my taste. Well, Evanescence has been the opener for my venture into gothic world. Dilana of .. what was it, the rock show reality last year .. Has also contribute a motivation. Then, I found Therion in last.fm. Male fronted though, but it has also made me assured. I’m into gothic genre, or so I said.

My adventure in last.fm is not fruitless. Not so long ago I found this Angstoria. One free track on last.fm is enough. This band will rock my world. And indeed. The female vocal is truly authentic. Dark and deep, not to mention how the compose their music. The flow is endless. If you are into female fronted gothic genre, you should really try Angstoria.
