ntfs-3g 20070920 BETA

September 30, 2006 · Filed Under Open Source, Technology · 5 Comments

Looking at the changelog, I found that the $MFTMirr garbage issue has been solved.

 Major changes:

    - fix: file creation at disk-full may lead to i/o errors
    - fix: statistic of inodes and free inodes was incorrect (df -i)
    - fix: the 'umask' option wasn't always parsed as an octal number
    - fix: "too long filename" handling wasn't posix compliant
    - fix: mount failed if $MFTMirr had unused garbage at the file end

Whoaaaa. Let’s try to compile the latest source once more and check how it is doing now.

[geek@toni ntfs-3g-20070920-BETA]$ sudo ntfs-3g /dev/sda6 /mnt/flashdisk/
Volume is scheduled for check.
Please boot into Windows TWICE, or use the ‘force’ mount option.
[geek@toni ntfs-3g-20070920-BETA]$ sudo ntfs-3g /dev/sda6 /mnt/flashdisk/ -o force
WARNING: Dirty volume mount was forced by the ‘force’ mount option.
sh: modprobe: command not found
[geek@toni ntfs-3g-20070920-BETA]$ export PATH=$PATH:/sbin/
[geek@toni ntfs-3g-20070920-BETA]$ sudo ntfs-3g /dev/sda6 /mnt/flashdisk/ -o force
Error opening partition device: Device or resource busy
Failed to startup volume: Device or resource busy
Failed to mount ‘/dev/sda6′: Device or resource busy
Mount is denied because the NTFS volume is already exclusively opened.
The volume may be already mounted, or another software may use it which
could be identified for example by the help of the ‘fuser’ command.

Okay, let’s touch something …

[geek@toni ntfs-3g-20070920-BETA]$ touch /mnt/flashdisk/foo
[geek@toni ntfs-3g-20070920-BETA]$ ls /mnt/flashdisk/foo -l
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Sep 30 00:01 /mnt/flashdisk/foo

W00t!! Read write on ntfs for real!!! now i can ditch some files, regain some space and breath freely on my C: partition. Darn, I have too much fun tonite. Yay!!

Amarok and iTunes

I see some daap string within my amarok-svn compile process today. I bet there’s somthing fishy there. I have a hunch that Amarok is now capable of playing daap streams (read: iTunes shares). After a quick goggling, I foudn the info. And you can see in the screenshot, I’m playing daap stream from another machine, a Macbook Pro on 192.168.1.77. Not mine of course :p

By the way, there’s a iTunes-ish music store like feature here. the service integrated with magnatude.com, which seem sells indie tracks only.

It’s going to good direction. Keep up the good work guys!

Initial D

Uh oh, OST-nya lumayan bagus. Yang nyanyi beraliran Evanescence. Dogfight (OP) and Blast My Desire (ED) are worth listening.

Hence, what you’ll found is 6.3 released on august 2005. WTF?! There you are.

Whoa, after a bunch of error, removed –enable-mbstring (which for sure would give me problems in the future). I finally managed to build required apache module. Obviously has been overwriting my previous working module of php 5.0.4 version, so thre’s no turning back now. Salahmu dhewe!

Fashionsnap.com Rating

Fashionsnap.com Rating

Originally uploaded by Framed Geek.

Hey, what is Sunday without any hacking? ^^. I stumbled upon FashionSnap few days ago. Got the link from pingmag.jp when they are interviewing some street photgrapher. I really think the site is nice. It feels somewhat realistic to see fashion from real street instead of catwalk. What thing missing from fashionsnap is interactivity. There’s already an acution section which seem to interactive but that’s not my focus. I was astonished by the snap_page section where photos gathered every week. I think it’ll be fun to add a rating system into the page.

After a few second, I came up with an un-obstrusive AJAX rating system found via google. The script looks simple and compact, really fits my need which only concern with rating_subject_id and nothing more. I adjusted the script a bit, md5-ing the id and replace the default XHR with one suggested (AdvAjax) by a visitor in the ajax-rating site.

What’s a rating without any comment? Oh fcuk, here we go. for comment feature I had to make another table. And then adding some SQL query within the original script to implement the comment feature.

Uh oh, I use greasemonkey instead of creating a brand new mashup. Creating a mashup would be nice, but I can prefectly calculate taht it’ll take some more time. It’ll definitely render me bored during the way. So that’s it. Greasemonkey was the perfect solution for my rapid prototyping.

Final result can be seen within the screenshot. Greasemonkey script can be installed from this page. There’s still an issue with iframe auto-resize. I don’t have any iframe auto-resize algorithm, yet. So, any help will be appreciated ^^. Comments are encouraged.

PS:
Since this rating script use id only, basically it can be used to rate anything that has an id.

Got this fvwm-crystal link from osnews.com. Seems nice so I gave it a spin. So far so good. The only thing bothers me is Kopete insists to stay out of tray, which is felt b*tchy. I love the minimized-app thumbnail. I missed the Virtual desktop slider on the original fvwm (continuosly can be found right after your current desktop, no need to do click-to-switch)

I’ll try thin thing for a few days and compared to fluxbox. Now I need to custom it a bit, or getting used to it to do Kate, Firefox, and Aterm every morning.

I bet you’ve meet reflection everywhere. Even most web 2.0 design is analogical to this reflection effect. It’s now a new trend, not just for web, this reflection culture brought by Apple has influenced desktop app as well. Obviously Mac apps, and also, don’t forget Microsoft. Are you kidding? Well, as long as it is can be hyped for a decade or less, why not? Afterall, user will eventually ask for it. Shinyyyy, preciousssssssss ….. And you can have it also in your very-own Wordpress blog.

My Typical Desktop

As usual, Fluxbox featuring: Kate, ATerm (running ncmpc), xterm (running watch -n 5 ~/mpc-status), Firefox (loading intranet app, and some of my regular readings), Kopete (replacing Yahoo! Mesenger), conky, and a nice dark wallpaper. In the background process, mpd playing some anime OST, and mpdscribble submitting current song to last.fm.

And my point with this post are .. errr .. Hey look, what’s that in the sky. It’s Superman!!! *runway*
