OPAC 2.0

Jumping into the “2.0″ bandwagon, there’s a prototype of a leveraged traditional ILS app. This won’t be a replacement to any existing ILS system, instead these can be use as an alternative way to give user a better experience. I meant, how many of you has seen such system which can provide indexable-by-search-engine library information, with an ease to re-arrange the visual experience (doesn’t need a hard-core code monkey but a GD will be sufficient), attached with tags (keywords), and can accept comments (review).

Sounds like an exaggeration eh? Well, most library won’t have such resource to hack a new library application themselves. And buy custom software will indeed cost some fortune. Thus, this wordpress based library app will fit just fine. Free as in freedom (you’ll get the source for nothing in exchange), well documented, has its own huge community. Uh oh, have I mention taht this app won’t replace the alredy existing ILS system? The app will stand above ILS and will import its data from ILS.

Putting everything in one line, there’ll be a massive benefit can be gained using this approach. Library information will be spread all over the internet. And only God knows how soon a mashup will be pop out of the blue based on this pile of information.
