It has all Vi’s features of course, but Microsoft has added more value into it. Check it out and download it while still hot!

Digikam rocks!

August 31, 2005 · Filed Under Open Source, Regular Hours · 1 Comment

This is just what I need. A Picasa for linux :D. It has timeline, tags, and album management. One thing I don’t like is digikam will copy your picture to make an album instead of just indexing them. Well, I guess I can resolve this problem by dropping all my pixs in one folder. Hehe, just like what I’ve been doing all this time with my /data/Pictures :p

Uh oh, have I mention that digikam has theme? :) Well, it has. I was using the Dark theme in the screenshot.

Fellow Penguin

August 30, 2005 · Filed Under General · 1 Comment

This is the time-of-my-day today. Uculan buzz me and asking wether I’m interested to join him to eat this afternoon with our ol pal (my fellow penguin from duniasemu). Hey, that’s so temptating, I wouldn’t pass the offer, no way :). So finally we gathered at KFC near my office. uculan, stwn, agusweks and den_marwan has already there. I ordered Twister and coke and them join them having afternoon meal :) (Psst, it was stwn’s treat actually.. thanks so much man).

Finished the meal and chatting and laughing for a little while we decided to brought stwn to our office (actually stwn’s former office too). I showed stwn some files I downloaded from aKademy 2005, and stwn gave me some files from his desknote. An equal trade, touka kouka :D.

Too bad, stwn wasn’t able to stay long. Apparently he has an appointment to attend. I’m a lil bit disapointed since I was feeling like talking with him about lotsa things. Of course not far away from linux and KDE :D. Well, it was still so much fun to met him.

See ya another time, my fellow penguin! :)

Ext3 Limitance?

toni kernel: Assertion failure in dx_probe() at fs/ext3/namei.c:381: "dx_get_limit(entries) == dx_root_limit(dir, root->info.info_length)"

That’s what I got these two days when pointing Konqi to my home folder or root folder. A bug? A limitance of folder number?

Playing with Google Earth

August 30, 2005 · Filed Under General, Technology · Comment

Thanks to Andi, I ahve the time to play with Google earth using his powerful computer.

Oaay, let’s get started. I have a tip to help you find the place you want. Take this as en axample I want to see Akihabara on Google earth. Where is it?

Find Akihabara on travelgis.com, you’ll get some GIS info there. Latitude and logitude degrees to be exact.
Go to this site to convert your latitude and longitude into the format acceptable by google earth:
eg:
Longitude: 139.767
Latitude: 35.7
Japan

Will yields in:
35° 42′ 0.0000″N, 139° 46′ 1.2001″E, without the N and E, I found myself the N and E by pointing Google earth to Tokyo. NOw I can assume that the coordinate given to me is in N and E (I hope)

Put that into Google earth and fly away :D. HAve fun! :)

PS:
How come I get green in Akihabara .. should it be buildings there???

Well, it seems that I can attend the aKademy eventhough I’m not in Malaga :p. I’m a newbie, nevertheless KDE is so much has been quite an attraction to me. And all those audio and video of aKademy presentation is just so temptating … Can wait to see the video .. There are some topics I would love to know such as KDE performance, KDE new technology, and other cool stuves :D

Relieved

Yeah, the spirit to code has come back. I guess I’ve done soemthing fun yesterday. Fixing the bugs, and add some nice feature into the app I’m working on in the office. Yeah, I was introducing some new bugs :p, but lucky me peer review, and pair programming with my teammates has crushed the bug. There are still some glitches but it doesn’t affect the business process. Phew, thank God :D.

So, graduation and new life has been crossing into my mind lately. I’ve always thought that my being-a-student status has always prevented me from doing more things. Now that graduation is not so far anymore, I’m thinking of what to do with this new phase. A new life maybe? A little breaktrough? More self confidence, less waiting and more let’s get started?

I have dreams, though not much (my mom has always educated me to not dreaming too much, nevertheless being optimistic is a must). Should I draw my plan clearer, put some confidence and guts in it and bravely start taking a step?

Sssssshhhh, be quite .. I’m waiting for the answer ..

KDE Composite Effect Demo

August 28, 2005 · Filed Under Open Source, Technology · Comment

I just show Momon about KDE support fro xorg Composite extension. Momon put his face close enough to the monitor and asking: is this antialiasing? .. Well, err, I dunno. but I guess so :p

The conversation went more or less like below illustration (Momon in quoted block, me in italics)

What’s your computer spec?

256MB worth RAM dan 2.4GHz Celeron? ..

You know, windows has always need some kinda upgrade if you want to taste the next tech ..
Why does it seem to be easy for Linux to do things like these?

Well, err, I guess it’s because of the design. You know, in linux we have a pretty good separation .. I don’t have to upgrade the whole thing to taste the new tech. X server is a separate component, and the above layer is not so much influenced when I upgrade the X Server. It’s then a matter of wether the above layer such as KDE will support the upgraded X server new features. Something like this composite extension.
